Hey gang,

Here we have it, the last offerings from the Beach Impediment Label for the year 2020. What a journey it's been and who knows just what the hell is in store for the last month and some change of it. Now normally I'd feel kinda weird dropping releases a couple days before that stupid ass holiday at the end of November, but with everything the way it's been let's just shun tradtion go for it! Not to mention that if you're traveling willy-nilly for the aforementioned stupid ass holiday to share enclosed close quarters with others during a pandemic you're just kind of a piece of shit anyways and I hope you miss the email. All that science and reality talk aside, year nine of the label has been rather fulfilling and these last two slabs also bring us to a grand total of 50 entries thus far. Here's hoping for 69 (that's 19 more) before it's all said and done - anyways much to come in 2021 AKA year 10 of this circus. Keep your eyes, ears, etc peeled starting in January but as for the here and now... "let's rock."

PUBLIC ACID - CONDEMNATION EP

"Woo-wee! Public Acid, folks - the undisputed pride of North Carolina! Or is it Virginia now? A bit of both perhaps?! Ah hell, is acknowledging geographic location really even relevant when it comes to top shelf hardcore punk? The dead fucks that made those borders and boundaries wouldn't know shit about riffs anyway. In the couple years since their self released 12" came into being, the band has gigged all over the country (back when that was an option) and expanded their catalog further via a flexi and some cassettes, garnering much deserved attention and adoration from those fortunate enough to be enlightened with those scenarios and/or physical formats. But that was the old world and what matters here and now is that the "CONDEMNATION" EP is 6 urgent blasts of punk music that result in a sonic whirlwind that few others have previously concocted. In a genre that has become dominated by embarrassing posturing, this slab is a much welcomed breath of fresh air in an age of suffocating and uncertainty. Recorded and mastered at Artifact Audio in NYC by Sasha Stroud just before the shit hit the fan, each record comes in a folded sleeve both designed and screen printed by Public Acid collaborator and comrade Thomas Sara."

In repress news, both the DAME - S/T 12" and MURO - PACIFICAR 12" are back in print! DAME is a 2nd press of 200 copies, all of which are on what has been described as a "sexy red" vinyl. The 2nd press copies of MURO are limited to 300 and come in a sharp black dust sleeve this go around. We meant to have these ready last time around buuuuut Covid delayed shit.

7/28/20 - New releases from DAME and LONG KNIFE OUT NOW!!

Greetings friends,

I hope you're all staying safe in this strange new world we find ourselves in, dominated by a global pandemic with no signs of slowing and a powder keg of police violence coming to a head with protest and resistance, the likes of which we haven't seen for many decades in my country and many others. It feels much longer than the 4 months that have passed since the last time I sent one of these out. At any rate, I hope you are all well and are doing what you can to strengthen your communities in these trying times. Speaking of which, a huge thank you to all who participated in the silent auction of B.I.R. test presses I did a couple months back. I was able to funnel around $2,200 into local groups here in Richmond, VA that are helping in light of the aforementioned crises we are facing. With this in mind, for the next week and a half the total of each band's downloads of their respective new releases will be going to local causes that mean a lot to them and require help with the current nightmare reality we find ourselves in. I will detail that below in a second. Continued solidarity with all risking their well being in the name of progress and the eradication of antiquated and inherently violent thought has steered our country since its inception. Though currently spread out geographically, the quintet were able to capture these modern classic tracks of post punk / gothic brilliance at Side Two Studios before the world turned upside down on us all. Equal parts melancholic and haunting, these seven tracks permeate the deepest corners of your psyche, refusing to vacate for quite some time. While keeping to the tried and true hardcore punk formula that has served as a sonic vessel for numerous trips around the circuit there are some far more rocking elements in the mix this go around which is just a taste of what is to come. Well top of the bloody fokkin' mornin' to ya! The Beach Impediment label is here to bestow upon ye some Saint Patrick's Day cheer in the form of three brand new releases that you can blast before and after we're all quarantined due to being respectful and attentive to the needs of those in our populace with compromised immune systems in the face of this global pandemic! MURO - PACIFICAR LP

It's been a few years, countless miles of international touring that has exhibited their energetic live show to those lucky enough to witness it, and an incalculable amount of hours spent in rehearsal perfecting a breed of auditory frenzy that is all their own... and at long last we, the hardcore punk faithful, are rewarded with the great MURO delivering to us their latest LP titled "Pacificar." Many would have fathomed a follow up to 2017's "Ataque Hardcore Punk" to be quite the unthinkable feat, but these 11 tracks prove that MURO are far from a flash in the pan like so many others in this day and age and that they don't take the creation of their contributions to the greater punk canon lightly. As a testament to their unwavering work ethic and approach to presenting their art how they see fit, all print material was made by the band and friends at their Casa Rat Trap Collective in Bogota, Colombia and features a series of alternate versions of cover art a la The Execute's 1983 self titled EP compliments of the band's own Carlos Velásquez and Wilson Melo. It's a privilege to kick off yet another decade of hardcore punk with a release of this caliber.

LAFFING GAS - IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE GULCH LP

Nearly four years after delivering a handful of demos along with a live tape then seemingly dropping off the radar release wise, Bloomington's LAFFING GAS swing back at any and all credulous hardcore punk enthusiasts who might have forgotten about them or thought they'd just run their course and faded into obscurity as so many tend to do. "It's a Beautiful Day in the Gulch" showcases 10 blazing tracks of classic Midwestern hardcore punk, the vibe of which is more in debt to the revolutionary aural offerings of the early Touch and Go and/or Version Sound labels or even Kick N' Punch Records as a slightly more modern reference than what the region has become synonymous with in more recent times. Each record comes in a stunning glossy jacket featuring art and layout by the band's guitarist Kora Puckett. Limited to 500 copies.

VANITY - RARELY IF EVER b/w WE'RE FRIENDS 7"

The second of two brand new singles that one of NYC's greatest will be gracing us with during this balmy winter and their first recorded output since the release of their highly praised "Evening Reception" full length, the Beach Impediment Label is honored to be an even minuscule component in releasing yet another slab for the almighty VANITY. With a track record of releases that spans the past 7 years, the style and approach of the group has (much to the dismay of some yet absolute delight of others) arguably seen it's fair share of metamorphosis over the course of this particular project's run. Yet amidst the sonic evolution exhibited by VANITY as their catalog has progressed, the expertise in conceiving an ever so catchy ditty still holds true as is evident with the A-Side "Rarely if Ever" - a track that is guaranteed to remain embedded in one's head for quite some time. "We're Friends" closes it all out on a triumphant and decidedly rocking note, bebé, leaving those who've been on this journey thus far yearning for what comes next. Limited to a one time pressing of 500 copies.

In case you haven't heard, MURO had their European tour canceled in light of the global pandemic a good week into it and are currently stranded in London trying to get tickets back home to Colombia. To help with the unexpected travel fees, Paco over at La Vida Es Un Mus will be aiding the band in selling their leftover tour merch with the hope of recuperating some of the money lost. In the event it's easier for you to do so feel free to order the new record from LVEUM here and help the band directly in this time of need.

On the GIGGIN' front, keep your eyes peeled for WARTHOG at K-TOWN FEST along with a Northern European tour come June. LAFFING GAS will be touring select parts of the states come May in support of the new record, more on that as it develops.

The Beach Impediment Records Fall 2019 releases are finally available to the public! In addition to those absolute gems being ripe for taking after a slew of delays (go fucking figure), a few out of print titles (some for only a little while and others for a long while) are available once again as well! HAIRCUT - SENSATION EP

After turning some heads with their debut 7" entitled "SHUTTING DOWN" released on the high quality Feel It Records label back in 2017, HAIRCUT have finally unleashed their follow up with the "SENSATION" EP. Four tracks of pummeling hardcore punk that retain the velocity and ferocity of the band's previous output whilst adding a decisive dose of meat and potatoes to the sonic formula, all the while Juliana belts out lyrics in both Spanish and English at a feverish pace. As we collectively sit on the cusp of entering the 2020's within a matter of months, HAIRCUT is a wonderful reminder that when it's done with equal parts precision and passion there's just no room for the gimmicks, posturing or other eye roll inducing baggage that tends to afflict the genre of hardcore punk, be it regionally or internationally. Such purity can stand on its own two feet and present itself loud and proud which is something that all enthusiasts can take great delight in as this genre cascades into yet another decade of continuation. Can one ever have enough quality mangel in their life?! Beach Impediment is proud to not only be handling the North American pressing of this bombastic debut by Sweden's LARMA but to also answer that lingering question with a resounding "HELL NO!" Considering the folks in this band have been responsible for a large portion of the top tier raging hardcore punk to come from the greater Scandinavian area via their previous endeavors in the likes of SKITKIDS, HERÄTYS, INFERNÖH and loads more over the past couple decades, it's not even remotely surprising that the contents of this 12" are a remarkable regional tutorial sorts worked into a proper ass kicking from start to finish. LOOSE NUKES - BEHIND THE SCREEN EP

United by the confounds of the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, LOOSE NUKES is truly an East meets West hardcore punk detonation of immense proportions. Consisting of one half of Pittsburgh's late great BLOOD PRESSURE along with other residents of the Quaker State that have served time in the likes of SICKOIDS, DARK THOUGHTS and countless other Philadelphian greats over the years, the pedigree is undeniable and, as one would guess, the tunes themselves are high caliber in both their composition and raw delivery. "BEHIND THE SCREEN" is eight tracks of smoldering hardcore punk in just over nine and a half minutes. If you're looking for some kinda new spin on the olde wheel, it might be best to just keep walking / scrolling / etc. But if ya got a hankerin' for well executed hardcore punk, well shit bud, you've arrived! Hey all! The Beach Impediment Spring 2019 releases are finally available! PLEASE NOTE - these new titles will start shipping the first week of May, thanks in advance for your patience and understanding! Let's just get right down to it, ya dig?

CONDOR - SINGLES 2017-2018 12"

Maxime Smadja has held many positions of note in some of the more exceptional French underground groups of recent years. For instance, you might know him as the beastly beat keeper behind Paris Oi band RIXE or the song writer behind the ever so catchy BOSS but for those who have yet to be initiated this is CONDOR - a one man band and love letter of sorts to his homeland and the particular strain of Oi / Punk music that it started yielding well over three decades ago. Previously only available on a pair of scarcely pressed and circulated cassingles, Beach Impediment Records is ecstatic to further the circulation of these six songs on the vinyl format. Channeling the brightest moments of the classic compilation series "Chaos En France" (and really, anything else on the Chaos Productions label that's worth a damn) combined with an execution so precise and well crafted that it carries that undeniable trademark of Smadja's many other contributions to the genre of punk over his time in it due to it's attention to detail and adoration of quality. And as a special bonus this slab features an additional track that is exclusive to this release - a cover of "Vengeance" by the 80's Parisian Oi outfit D.E.M. Each record comes in a jacket featuring the stellar art of Beau Richie depicting what I'd assume must be a typical day in one of the abundant alleyways that weave through out the City of Lights, plus a killer 18" x 24" fold out poster insert. GAME - NO ONE WINS LP

At long last, the follow up to 2017’s "Who Will Play?" flexi has materialised in the form of "No One Wins" on the LP format. With influences and membership that span the world of hardcore punk, both stylistically and geographically, this platter sports 10 tracks of pummeling hardcore punk that incorporates metallic elements drawn from the near and far reaches of mid 80s international hardcore and thrash to the simplicity of domestic HC pestilence. Blended with a great finesse that is both tasteful and potent  - which seems to be a rare feat to attain this day and age - and buttressed by a top notch mastering job by the great Arthur Rizk (SHIT "What Do You Stand For," Impalers "Cellar Dweller”, Power Trip ‘Nightmare Logic’) which only feeds the fire that is the base of these already enormous tracks. GAME is the conduit. Relatively new but sending sickening sounds into the New Wave of British Hardcore collective, decimating any and all willing to be destroyed.

With the passage of two years since the release of their demo, along with a hefty helping of gigs under their belts, Mid-Atlantic powerhouse WITCHTRIAL have at long last bestowed upon us all the absolutely thunderous offering that is their self titled 12" EP. Drawing equally on the cult sounds of mid-80's international hardcore punk and the early days of underground extreme metal, WITCHTRIAL has made it their duty to remind us that there'd be no HELLHAMMER without DISCHARGE and no BATHORY without GBH. This slab features 6 brand new cuts of the driving metalpunk madness that many a maniac has embraced since the group's inception. Hello and a happy new year to all of ya! Boy howdy am I just TICKLED PINK to start 2019 off with both of these slabs that are just the beginning of what is looking like a busy year. Let's get right to it:

VAASKA - INOCENTES CONDENADOS EP

"A lot has happened in the three years since the "FUTURO PRIMITIVO" EP dropped in correlation with the band's 2016 Japanese tour and now VAASKA returns to a world that's worse off with what could possibly be their final statement in the form of the "INOCENTES CONDENADOS" EP. Six tracks of smoldering D-Beat based hardcore punk which could arguably be the greatest recording session of their 10+ years as a band. Mastered by Kenko at Communichaos Media Clay Station in Sweden AKA exactly who you want to be twisting the knobs on a project like this. Each record comes in a Discharge style pocket sleeve with collaborative effort imagery by Todo Destruido, Jack Blackmon and Ryan Fromdeland."

"What is there that can be said about Bogota, Colombia's MURO that can even remotely rationalize the true force of nature that they are both in the recorded setting and as a live entity? The initiated know the deal but for those that don't... welcome! Originally released by the outstanding Nordic based Byllepest Distro label in 2017, the "ATAQUE HARDCORE PUNK" 12" was repressed for the band's explosive appearance at NOT DEAD YET 2018 and the Canadian tour that followed shortly thereafter. Channeling the ferocity of other regional greats while contributing a take on the genre that is undeniably all their own, Beach Impediment Records is honored to aid in the North American advancement of this modern day South American hardcore punk classic. Each record comes in a DIY style paper sleeve containing two massive poster inserts, all of which was screen printed and assembled by the members of MURO at their Casa Rat Trap Collective in Bogota. Keep an ear to the ground as there will be more to come from this outstanding group in 2019."

10/19/18 - NEW RELEASES from VANITY, BLOOD PRESSURE, STIGMATISM, and L'AMOUR OUT NOW!!

And we're back! It's been a busy year with not much to show for it... until now! As luck would have it all of these projects pretty much came together at the same time, thus they will be released as such! B.I.R. unloads 4 more slabs of all kindsa types today with more to follow next month! But for now, let's focus on the heavy hitters in question - READ ON!

BLOOD PRESSURE - SURROUNDED 12"

Say there was a Keystone State Wrestling Alliance of sorts that consisted of a plethora of regional hardcore punk bands instead of a gaggle of scantily clad lowbrow beefcakes in spandex... Pittsburgh's own BLOOD PRESSURE would surely be the undisputed heavyweight champions of this fictitious league that I envisioned whilst rocking a slash in that alley across from the Rock Room. Yeah, I was pretty hammered BUT who would object to such a notion though?! Hell, the proof is right here in the pudding buddy roe, which in this case is essentially just a bunch of pureed proteins and starches - AKA precisely the recipe of audibility that these yinzers have mastered and carried out time and time again. Two years away from the studio clearly didn't turn them into slouches by any stretch of the imagination. "SURROUNDED" supplies an undeserving world with ten tracks of seething and hate filled hardcore punk that is bound to tickle the fancy of any and all "real ones" or whatever. VANITY - EVENING RECEPTION LP

"A lost episode of Fawlty Towers set in the present day astride a shoddy sofa in a den in Brooklyn: Instead of not “mentioning the war” the challenge is to swim through this LP without uttering or even entertaining the tiniest sniff of dearest Nanker Phelge. This proves far more rewarding than throwing a knee-jerk ticker tape parade for the open-tuned greyzone murk of Guitar-Centre blues musicians everywhere and frankly, that would be a lazy disservice to what you're about to hear. Rising up instead, we have the grandiose and pampositical return of the perfectly named, Vanity. Yes that’s a compliment, no it's not a real word. Energetic punk consommé indebted to rock and roll but coming across less like the deliberate broken chains of Vans slip ons and Target 501s swapped for sequins, strides, and scarves - but more like an effort forged in Billy Zoom’s living room on Warren Zevon’s gear as played by the Saints’ roadies in a bar that serves really, really, really cold beer. Coincidentally, I would endorse that as a suggested serving. Take a long hard look in the mirror, slyly lit so your cheekbones pop, and preen yourself ’til your skin peels off."

L'AMOUR - LOOK TO THE ARTIST: 1978-1981 12"

When admiring a piece of cultural and historical significance it's not uncommon for the admirer to question where it all began; to trace it all back to the epicenter of the event that set it all into motion. If RICKY AND THE WHITE BOYS were the punk rock meteor that crashed into an unsuspecting Richmond, VA in the age of disco then L'AMOUR was the shock wave immediately following that fabled and chaotic impact event, forever altering the cultural landscape within the city limits. Formed in 1978 by a couple of disciples of rock and roll who'd had their lives altered by said genre / belief system in the years prior to that, Tom Applegate and Dave Stover recruited other like minded rockers to aid them in their aural conquest over the next few years that followed in the group's all too brief existence. In that time they left behind a trail of broken bottles, perhaps a few broken hearts, and definitely some perturbed club owners up and down the east coast. But most importantly, the fellas in L'AMOUR left us with documentation of their rock in the form of some long forgotten tapes. Nearly 40 years after the band entered the studio to lay down tracks for their first and only 7" single on the band's own legendary ZERO DEGREE RECORDS (a label that became synonymous with the release and widespread circulation of the early Richmond punk scene that was soon to follow), Beach Impediment is proud to not only re-release those classic songs but also bring to light a slew of previously unreleased tracks, alternate demo takes, and even a rare later era soundboard recording of the band live in their hometown that exhibits a grip of originals that sadly never made it into the studio before the band's untimely demise the day before Reagan took office. Lovingly transferred from the original 1/4" reels (some of which were a wee bit moldy after years of being M.I.A. but were thankfully salvaged via professional cleaning) along with a new mastering job, these tracks hit harder than ever! Members would go on to play in other classic and ground breaking Richmond bands like BEEX and THE PREVARICATORS. Each record comes with a fold out 12" x 24" double sided insert chock full of archival photos and flyers plus liner notes from Tommy the Rock himself that give the reader a glimpse into the counter-cultural explosion of the late 70's / early 80's in the land once known as Dixie. Electric guitars were (and still are) their only desire. Limited to 500 copies.

This edition also comes with a reprint of Tom and Dave's 1978 zine RICHMOND NEW RAVER scanned from the original master copy and chock full of reviews, rants, opinions, Patti Smith worship, and previously unpublished photos of THE RAMONES, THE CRAMPS, THE RUNAWAYS, and some local groups & rockers to boot PLUS reprints of three classic L'AMOUR flyers on thick card stock paper!

STIGMATISM - S/T EP

Ya know that Big City Records compilation "Montreal New York Connection 85 Live" with all the wild looking cartoon punks on it? STIGMATISM is the sonic equivalent of that big fella on the cover with the mohawk rocking boots and braces whilst letting off and undoubtedly blood curdling howl doing key bumps of meth with that flag toting skinhead from the back of the "United Blood" EP in a real seedy alleyway at like, 3:41 AM on a Tuesday. STIGMATISM is an infatuation with and/or an astute observation of the more, dare I say, "early man" aspects of that first wave of NYHC. Featuring an ex OMEGA and a native New Yorker united in their love of this particular style of hardcore punk, this demo recording has been slapped onto some slabs of plastic that can be played loud on a phonograph or utilized as a level plane for those aforementioned servings of meth. Each record comes in a glue pocket sleeve adorned with a design by the illustrious Spoiler. Limited to 500 copies.
